Deception

1. If someone gives you a dud bankers draft and you hand them your car - it is NOT 'theft'. You do not necessarily retain title

2. If you have bought a vehicle that was acquired by deception, you do not necessarily acquire title.

What both parties acquire is a dispute - one that may be lengthy and costly to resolve.

Dodgy Drafts

	Selling a car? Think twice about accepting a bankers draft. Check with the issuing bank that the document is not a forgery. If you accept a fraudulent bankers draft you could lose all claim to your car - title could pass to an innocent purchaser and 1.you will not see the car again 2. your car insurance does not cover the loss 3. you are likely to receive little assistance from the police.

	This is a particularly despicable crime - do not be a victim!
